FIRST FINISH PIONEERS GREEN CONSTRUCTION
COLUMBIA, Md., September 8, 2008 – Did you know that the carpet industry estimates that nearly 5 billion pounds of carpet made its way into U.S. landfills in 2003? According to the Environmental Protection Agency, this was the result of a non-existent carpet collection and processing infrastructure.
To reduce resource consumption and pioneer eco-friendly practices within our industry, First Finish has expanded its recycling efforts to include all projects going forward. In addition to carpet recycling, we have challenged ourselves with recycling cardboard, plastic, acoustical ceiling tiles and other debris from our sites.
“We started this company under the premise of environmental responsibility because construction is not a particularly ‘green’ industry due to its use of raw materials and the way it generates a lot of waste,” says David Burman, president of First Finish. “With this additional direction of commercial renovations, we will not only improve the industry’s environmental reputation, but we will help building owners position themselves as environmentally responsible through reducing, reusing, and recycling construction materials.”
To assist us with our recycling goal, we have partnered with local and regional recyclers of construction waste products.
