FIRST FINISH PROVIDES PRO BONO CONSTRUCTION SERVICES TO ST. ANN'S INFANT & MATERNITY HOME
Baltimore, August 6, 2010 – When the youngest residents of St. Ann's Infant & Maternity Home were in need of major improvements to their restroom facilities, Columbia Maryland-based general contracting firm First Finish, Inc. stepped in to help. Instead of merely updating the existing facilities, First Finish completely demolished and renovated the 300 square-foot area. Construction was completed in early August, and according to Sister Mary Bader, the tenants couldn’t be happier with their new space. “The kids are very special and deserved better. We are so grateful to First Finish and the other volunteers for providing this. We’re amazed at how it’s been, and the kids love it,” said Sister Mary.
Involvement in the project came through First Finish’s ties to the architectural and design community as well as their participation in the Network of the Hospitality Industry (NEWH) DC Chapter. The design team was led by Corrine Ritsick of Ritsick design. Corrine was also deeply involved in the global planning aspects of this charitable effort. First Finish provided materials, management, and a significant financial contribution to get the project going. The firm enlisted the assistance of subcontractors that have been great business and community partners for many years. Superior Mechanical, Regional Electric, and Stover Tile donated their time and materials to the renovation—all gratis. Additionally, CSS Professional Contracting provided their services to First Finish at a discounted rate. “Here at First Finish, we take great pride in giving back to the community, and we’re especially grateful to be able to do this for such a worthy cause as St. Anns,” said David Burman, President of First Finish.
The new restroom facilities allow maximum privacy for the younger population of St. Ann’s. Approximately 30 children, from infants to 12 year-olds, will benefit from the newly renovated space—complete with two child-level sinks, two stalls with doors, and space for a full-size, ADA-accessible bathtub and sink.
